Demonstration of dry magnetic separation to upgrade the Mn:Fe ratio of a ferromanganese ore sample

Sighter Induced Roll Magnetic Separation tests were conducted on a ferromanganese ore sample to determine the potential significantly upgrade Mn content and Mn:Fe ratio. The had ratio of 1.3 was comprised hematite, cryptomelane, pyrolusite, quartz, goethite braunite. Tests at 4.7, 2.3 1 mm top sizes revealed better separation Fe from sizes. This reflected liberation characteristics oxides both mm. A test −2.3 + 0.6 size fraction improved 4.6, 41.5 wt% with 69.4% mass recovery 84.2% recovery. Particle magnetic susceptibility influenced by particle microporosity, its effect apparent density, resulting in some reporting concentrate tails.
